My six year old niece and I went to the mall last month to buy some plumbing supplies. My small, home-run baking business was doing quite well and I had saved up enough money to buy the shiny chrome shower kit I have been coveting for ages. On the way to the hardware, we passed by a kiosk offering free dippers for a chocolate fountain that they got going. Naturally, my niece dragged me for a closer look (taste). Since she has been so behaved, I went along, not unwillingly at all.

It so happens that that the kiosk was having a great sale on chocolate fountains. The prices were so great that I couldn’t resist buying one. We passed by my favorite baking supply store and picked up a chocolate block. As soon as we got home, my niece clamored to get the fountain going. I obliged and took out the chocolate block, melted it in the double broiler and got the machine going. We had some standby wafer sticks and used that as dippers.

Before long, the wafers were gone. Earlier that morning, I had baked some cupcakes for a wedding party and had quite a few unfrosted ones left. We took the plain cupcakes and let the chocolate flow all over the top. My niece got creative and used the leftover metallic and pearl glitters on top of the chocolate-drenched cupcakes. I had to admit, they looked quite lovely.

The following day, I baked some oatmeal bars and cut them up into bite-sized pieces. Then, I got the chocolate fountain going again, only this time, I didn’t add any shortening to the melted chocolate so that it would harden. Covering the oatmeal bites was incredibly fun and easy. I simply placed each chocolate-covered oatmeal bite on a paper cupcake liner, added some sprinklers and voila, I had created some gorgeous looking goodies. They were a big hit with my book club pot luck.

Next week, the book club will be meeting at my house. I’m planning on using the chocolate fountain for cheese fondue. I was thinking to use some vegetables sticks as dippers: celery, carrots, cucumber. For good measure, I will be adding some garlic toast, and also some sausage slices as well. Someone else has offered to bring some red wine, which will go perfectly with the cheese. As soon as I finish posting this blog I’m going to my kitchen to make some fondue for a trial run with the fountain, just to make sure that using cheese fondue would work well with the fountain mechanisms. My sister, who loves cheese, is already waiting with the Monterey jack and cheddar.

When you think about a wedding, you usually think about things like the flowers, the bride’s dress, her wedding makeup look, the bridesmaid dresses, the decorations, the food and the wedding cake. But when it comes to the food, one of the most popular confection and dessert choices is chocolate. And, if you’re going to go with something chocolate for your big day, the most exciting chocolate wedding attraction is an elegant chocolate fountain.

Your wedding day is special. It’s the day you will publicly state your love before your family and friends, and treat them to a grand event. Choosing the right chocolate fountain for your wedding reception, dinner or open house is important. A classy chocolate fountain choice can add a special romantic touch that will enhance your celebration. The look of flowing chocolate cascading down the fountain, combined with the sweet smell of chocolate adding its aroma to the room, will entice your guests to dip in.

A chocolate fountain will provide a luxurious touch throughout your wedding. Set up during the appetizer course, its beauty will tempt and please guests straight through until time for dessert, where it can either compliment the traditional wedding cake or be an exciting replacement for it. Just picture yourself feeding each other a freshly dipped strawberry or other delectable that you have prepared for each other.

The variety of dipping items for the chocolate fountain at your wedding offers itself to your individual preference. A wide assortment of fruit, candy, cookies, cakes, pastries, pretzels, chips or crackers all hold well on skewers to be covered in as much or as little chocolate as your guests prefer. As an added advantage when choosing a chocolate fountain for your wedding, there is the option of ladling on smooth comforting chocolate onto ice cream, cake, pudding, or dishes of berries. Let your imagination run wild with all the possibilities!
